If you have your Tartan Card Number (student ID number), you do not have to put down your Social Security Number.  However, if you are a first-time student, a Social Security Number must be provided on all needed documentation (application and registration form) for a Tartan Card Number to be issued.  Once a Tartan Card Number is issued, you can provide that number in lieu of your Social Security Number.
